Siemens three-dimensional map display

Siemens has developed a navigation system with a three-dimensional map display. These true-to-life images of entire streets and intersections make it easier for drivers to find their destinations even in unfamiliar urban areas. The system will be launched on the market in mid 2008. In contrast to systems commonly used today, this new navigation system from Siemens VDO Automotive displays different levels at highway interchanges.

Garmin Streetpilot C340 portable GPS navigation system

The Siemens system is not on the market yet. Interesting for car lovers is the portable Garmin’s StreetPilot c340.
Garmin Streetpilot C340 is one of the first Garmin street navigators that will receive traffic data from Garmin’s new GTM 10 FM Traffic Receiver. When connected to the GTM 10 the unit will be able to route around any traffic situations that are on the current route. Thus, getting drivers to their final destination faster and safer.

Text-to-speech

The StreetPilot c340 also offers a new feature called Text-to-Speech which will audibly prompt the driver to “Turn right on Main Street” instead of “Turn right in 500 ft”. Like its predecessor - the StreetPilot c330 - the new unit will feature an intuitive touch screen interface - designed to make GPS navigation easy for everyone. Selecting a destination is straightforward and requires only a limited amount of input from the user.

Car navigation with automatic route calculation

The Garmin Streetpilot c340 provides premium in car navigation capability with automatic route calculation to any destination and turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions along the way. The c340 offers all of the functions of a premium in-dash system at a fraction of the cost. The Garmin Streetpilot c340 comes preloaded with highly detailed City Select street data of the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The database features nearly 6 million points of interest - including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions.
