DuPont operates plants serving the automotive industry, including coatings and polymer manufacturing and compounding plants in North America, Europe and Asia.
DuPont offers more than 100 product lines in coatings, elastomers, electronic materials technologies, engineering and other performance plastics, fabricated products, fibers and advance composite materials, and specialty chemicals, lubricants and refrigerants.

DuPont in the auto industry since 1910

DuPont has been serving the auto industry since 1910 - starting with nitrocellulose coated fabrics for early vehicle "ragtops" and synthetic leather. Invented fast-drying "Duco" lacquers in 1923 to make it possible to paint cars in color on the fast moving assembly line. Starting with the launch of neoprene, Butacite interlayer for safety windshields, Teflon, nylon and refrigerants in the late 1930s; became the most diverse, leading supplier of man made materials to the automotive industry.

Worldwide automotive industry

DuPont serves the worldwide automotive industry through operations in seventy countries with more than hundred manufacturing plants and laboratories.
Annual sales by DuPont to the automotive industry are approximately $6 billion (USD), including both original equipment and aftermarket supply of materials and services. In 2002, Automotive News ranked DuPont the 13th largest automotive supplier based on North American OEM automotive sales, and the 18th largest automotive supplier based on worldwide OEM sales.

DuPont automotive polymers

DuPont automotive polymers are the ideal materials to recycle. DuPont recycles factory scrap at the rate of 200 million pounds per year. Breakthrough chemistry for coatings has led to liquid coatings that emit nearly zero volatile organic compounds. DuPont is the leader in waterborne coatings and also offers environmentally compliant power coatings.
